| Meta Launches Hyperscape: Turning Real-World Spaces Into VR |
September 24, 2025 — Tech News Desk
Meta has officially launched Hyperscape Capture, a groundbreaking technology that allows users to transform real-world spaces into immersive virtual reality environments. The announcement was made during the company’s annual Meta Connect developer conference, where the tech giant also unveiled updates to its smart glasses and metaverse initiatives.
Hyperscape enables Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners to scan any physical room in just a few minutes. Once scanned, the space is rendered into a photorealistic VR replica, giving users the ability to explore their own environments in digital form. While the scanning process is quick, Meta notes that the rendering can take several hours to complete.
At launch, the feature is limited to personal use, but Meta confirmed that sharing functionality — such as inviting others into a virtual space via private link — will roll out in the near future.
Hyperscape Capture is being introduced gradually through Early Access and will be available to users 18 years and older. The technology was first teased at last year’s Meta Connect event, where it was demonstrated using advanced rendering methods like Gaussian Splatting, cloud rendering, and streaming to create lifelike visuals on Quest headsets.
Meta has already showcased several Hyperscape-generated environments, including:
The Octagon at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas
Influencer Happy Kelli’s Crocs-filled room
Alongside Hyperscape, Meta also announced a lineup of upcoming VR games such as Marvel’s Deadpool VR, Star Wars: Beyond Victory, and Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. The company’s Horizon TV app will also expand to include Disney+ (with Hulu and ESPN) and new immersive film experiences through partnerships with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.
Hyperscape could transform industries like real estate, education, design, and entertainment by making VR more personal and realistic. For everyday users, it opens the door to creating their own virtual environments at home — a step closer to Meta’s long-term vision for the metaverse.
